Crafts Make Us Happy

Our new home has a second kitchen (actually a whole second suite attached, something they call a mother-in-law-suite) which we've decided to make our craft room. We tend to be pretty messy when making things, so it's rather perfect to have it in a whole separate area of the house. Except that all the walls are white, which really makes me crazy. I want to paint it. Funky colors and drawings and murals, anything to get the mind out of plain white wall mode. Lots of work to do there, but our materials are growing by the day!

I ordered a few headbands off Etsy for photography props and the girls fell in love with them. "Will you get me one mom?" Since I can't afford to buy a headband for every outfit for each girl in this house, I suggested we try our hand at making some ourselves. The first few turned out pretty gnarly looking, and the girls laughed at me. But after youtube searching a few things and trying over and over again, we began to see some fantastic results!
(sidenote :: you can learn to do ANYTHING on youtube)

Here's a few pics of some of our creations...

There's something very peaceful about sitting quietly, whether alone or in good company, and working with your hands. I dont know, just to sit and make something out of nothing with your own two hands is really fulfilling to me. I just LOVE creating.

It also makes me happy when Lia ASKS to model them for me :)

Soon I hope to learn to knit and sew and crochet, and then show the girls the craft once I've mastered it, providing I figure it out. I'd love to be able to make little hats and scarves and even skirts someday!

OU Homecoming Parade

This weekend was Ohio University's Homecoming so we took the kids to the parade to catch candy and watch the marching band. I never knew how much fun it could be to watch them play and dance, but that band is incredible! Really alot of fun.

After the parade we went to the campus so the kids could play on all the big blowup bouncy house toys. It was alot of fun. Levi especially enjoyed the live bands. He grabbed a stick, used it for a mic, and rocked out pretty hard. I think he was even break dancing at one point! lol
